ABOUT
Johnny Skinz is a multi-medium artist, working both as a custom sneaker designer and as a cartoonist & illustrator.
Johnny studied at St. John’s University and received a degree in Healthcare Informatics and currently works as a Desktop Support Specialist/Social Media Manager/Website Designer.
While always interested in art, he decided to start customizing sneakers in 2013 after seeing it done online. Soon after he joined with his co-worker/friend, Jon Mangini, and launched John Jon’s Customs. For years they traveled the NY-metro area attending sneaker and comic conventions to show off their custom creations.
Around this time, Johnny also rediscovered his love for drawing and started practicing daily. He particularly likes to work on sketch cards and small pieces with ink and alcohol markers. He will be releasing his first art book in 2018 featuring a compilation of his work entitled ‘Cereal for Dinner’.
Fast forward a few years to 2018. Johnny has officially launched his first business, Skinz Time, a mix of both his sneaker art and drawings. Most of his focus has shifted to his sneaker customs as the orders have flooded in since late 2017. Over the years he has painted designs including Disney, anime, rock bands, self-portraits, landscapes, flowers, and many cartoon characters and superheroes. Johnny remains an illustrator at heart so carrying over the tiny details to his sneaker art is his main goal.
